Job Summary
Provide effective spiritual support and appropriate religious resources to care recipients, families, and caregivers in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. Triage and manage crises in spiritual care practice while formulating individualized assessments, interventions, and care plans. Establish professional relationships with community clergy and faith leaders, promoting ethical decision-making and integrating research literature into care. Document care accurately in appropriate records and respect diversity in culture, gender, and spiritual practices. Maintain a valid driver's license and navigate physical demands including standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Collaborate within the healthcare team to honor the quality of life of patients and their families through compassionate, integrated home-based services.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Bachelor's degree in Theology, Ministry, Counseling, Psychology, Divinity, or a related field (for Alaska, Oregon, and Washington)
- Completion of at least one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited or approved by ACPE, USCCB/CCA, or CASC/ACSS (for Alaska, Oregon, and Washington)
- Master's degree in a related field (for Alaska, Oregon, and Washington)
- Master's Degree in Theology, Divinity, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry, or equivalent applicable education from an accredited institution (for California)
- Completion of at least one (1) unit of accredited CPE (for California)
- One (1) year of experience in the provision of spiritual/pastoral support to individuals or families
- National Chaplain Certification (within three (3) years of hire)
- Current, valid driver's license
- State-minimum automobile insurance
- Knowledge of the Religious and Ethical Directives of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (for Catholic context)
- Ordination and good standing with faculties provided by the local bishop (for Catholic priests)
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and governmental regulations
- Ability to effectively present information to leaders, team members, and external parties
- Ability to incorporate spiritual and emotional dimensions of human development into practice
- Ability to facilitate theological/spiritual reflection
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- California Fire and Life Safety Card (for Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and Providence Tarzana Medical Center)
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field (for Texas)
- One (1) year of experience related to loss, grief, bereavement, or trauma
- Board Certification through organizations such as the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), Spiritual Care Association (SCA), or National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC)
- Completion of at least one (1) unit of accredited CPE (4 units preferred for California)
- Ability to triage and manage crises in the practice of spiritual care
- Ability to formulate and utilize individualized spiritual assessments, interventions, outcomes, and care plans
- Ability to accurately and concisely document care in appropriate records
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships, including collaborative relationships with community clergy and faith group leaders
- Ability to understand and function within the institutional culture and systems, utilizing business principles appropriate to the role
- Ability to promote, facilitate, and support ethical decision-making
- Ability to integrate research literature into spiritual care practice
- Ability to provide effective spiritual support and appropriate religious/spiritual resources
- Ability to provide spiritual care that respects diversity and differences, including but not limited to culture, gender, sexual orientation, and spiritual/religious practices
- Ability to provide professional and competent spiritual care ministry
- Ability to serve the spiritual, religious, and emotional needs of others in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings
- Ability to implement the mission, values, policies, and procedures of the Department of Spiritual Health Services and the facility
- Ability to perform essential functions including regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity
- Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and conditions typical to a healthcare setting
