Job Summary
Artistic Director for Willy Wonka Jr. oversees the overall creative vision and direction of the musical production, guiding interpretive decisions, character development, and staging within budgetary and logistical constraints. Collaborates with the Production Manager, Music Director, and Stage Manager to maintain a positive, inclusive rehearsal environment; leads weekly production team meetings; communicates rehearsal schedules to families; develops the set and costume visions, and creates an educational plan for the cast. Responsibilities include directing and blocking scenes, attending auditions and casting, coordinating tech rehearsals and performances, and ensuring safety and structure for participants of all ages and backgrounds. Requires strong leadership, collaboration with the creative team, and a passion for youth theatre; CPR/First Aid are a plus, and reliable transportation is needed.
Required Qualifications
- Strong background in directing musical theatre
- Experience with youth in a theatre setting preferred
- Ability to collaborate with creative team (Music Director, Stage Manager)
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Willingness to lead auditions, casting, rehearsals, and performances
- CPR and First Aid certification is a plus but will be provided if needed
- Proficient in MS Outlook or other email system for communication purposes
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work
