Job Summary

Lead the Department of Surgery at Sidney Kimmel Medical College by shaping a unified model of care across Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals and serving as the 9th endowed Samuel D. Gross Professor. Drive strategic initiatives within the Clinical Care Collaborative for Surgery to scale value-based care across Jefferson Health's 32 hospitals while maintaining high-quality standards. Manage complex fiscal budgets, foster interdisciplinary research collaborations, and develop innovative clinical programs to expand access and support faculty growth. Ensure equitable practices and inclusive community engagement while advancing educational quality and patient safety. Report to the Dean of Sidney Kimmel Medical College with a focus on consensus building and strategic investment in clinical trials.

Required Qualifications

  • A clinically active physician leader in the field of Surgery
  • Track record of successfully securing external funding in support of impactful research
  • Outstanding record of scholarly contributions which merits appointment at the rank of associate or full professor at Sidney Kimmel Medical College
  • Administrative leader with an academic career trajectory showing increasing levels of administrative responsibilities
  • Experience culminating in serving as Chair, Vice Chair, or Division Chief for a department of Surgery
  • Proven record of success in advancing departmental goals and initiatives
  • Demonstrated capacity to support the growth and well-being of faculty, clinicians, and trainees
  • Development and mentorship of junior faculty
  • Fiscal management experience overseeing complex budgets
  • Allocating resources efficiently to support strategic priorities
  • Demonstrated commitment to implementing equitable practices
  • Fostering inclusive communities in all aspects of the Department's mission
  • Recruitment and career advancement of faculty
  • Patient care initiatives
  • MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree
  • Current board certification in Surgery
  • Licensed/eligible to practice in the state of Pennsylvania
