Job Summary

Prepare the operating room by setting up instruments, equipment, and supplies based on procedure and physician preference cards. Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures while anticipating the surgeon's needs for efficient instrument passing. Handle surgical instruments according to manufacturer instructions, including inspection, cleaning, and sterilization. Perform and document sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse. Assist with patient positioning, draping, and transfers under RN direction. Restock supplies, clean equipment, and prepare rooms for subsequent cases. Work collaboratively with the surgical team to facilitate safe, effective patient care. No weekends, holidays, or call required.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program
  • Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences
  • 0-2 years of operating room surgical technician experience
  • Expertise in surgical techniques, instrumentation, and sterile processing
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond quickly during procedures
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards, including safety and infection control protocols
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to patient safety and high-quality care
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist
  • BLS - Basic Life Support
