Job Summary
Scrub and assist cardiovascular surgeons during open heart procedures, valve replacements, and CABG while maintaining strict aseptic technique and sterile field integrity. Anticipate surgeon needs during complex cardiac cases and communicate effectively with the surgical team, including perfusionists and anesthesiologists. Manage cardiovascular surgical equipment, ensure proper documentation via computer systems, and support efficient patient throughput in a 500+ bed acute care Heart Center. Requires a Virginia Surgical Technician license, BLS certification within 90 days, and the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Day shift options available with rotating weekends.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of Surgical Tech Course or grandfathered by state
- Surgical Technician license registered with State of Virginia
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Basic computer proficiency
- Customer service abilities including effective listening skills
- Physical ability to perform frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and lifting patients/equipment up to 50 pounds
- Availability for day shift (6AM-2:30PM or 9AM-5:30PM) with rotating weekends
Desired Qualifications
- Previous surgical tech experience in cardiovascular or cardiac surgery
- 1-2 years scrub or hospital OR experience
- Experience with open heart procedures, cardiac instrumentation, and perfusion coordination
- CVOR experience
