Certified Surgical Tech

Position responsibilities include assisting in patient positioning and transfers, preparing and maintaining sterile setups, and disposing of linens, gloves, and sharps in appropriate containers. You will transport instruments to the decontamination area, check equipment function prior to cases, and report broken items to the charge nurse. Maintain the sterile field until dressings are applied, x-rays are taken, or the patient leaves the room, while immediately pointing out breaks in sterile technique. Handle contaminated items in red bags or linen bins, replace intra-operative supplies, and ensure instrument tray completeness before and after cases. Remove instruments from sterile drapes, demonstrate specialty instrument care, establish a neutral zone for sharps, and adhere to personal protective equipment protocols including eye protection when scrubbed. Identify and label medications, inspect sterile packages for integrity, check case supplies per surgeon preference, and assist with room turnover by disposing of surgical debris. Identify specimens verbally when passing them to the circulator and facilitate patient safety. Maintain current CPR status and surgical technician certification, demonstrating competence in at least one major service with flexibility to work in other areas as requested.
