Job Summary
Conduct direct and indirect perioperative surgical technologist tasks under RN supervision for pediatric, adult, and geriatric surgical and endoscopy procedures. Scrub for minor, major, and complex surgeries while anticipating team needs, maintaining sterile fields, and performing surgical counts. Manage instrument sets, hospital trays, and clinic trays; receive, sort, stock, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical items per AORN and Joint Commission standards. Transport patients, deliver specimens and medications, and confirm drug dosages using the three checks. Assist with cast and splint application, report defective equipment, and precept students and technologists in scrub roles. Maintain certification and collect data to promote improvement.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-3 years experience in health care
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- CST-Certified Surgical Technologist - NBSTSA - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
- Surgical Technologist - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies
- Knowledge of and the ability to use medical equipment and instruments
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
- Skill in establishing and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians, and the public
- Ability to precept surgical technologists and/ or RNs learning scrub roles
- Ability to assist with the application of casts and splints
- Ability to perform OR environmental maintenance duties
- Ability to perform all technical tasks that support clinical operations
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
