Job Summary
Receive, sort, and decontaminate soiled instruments following manufacturer instructions and infection control protocols. Clean, rinse, and disinfect tools using ultrasonic cleaners and manual techniques before sterilization. Operate autoclaves, monitor biological and chemical indicators, and document all cycle results. Inspect instruments for damage, assemble trays per count sheets, and store processed supplies to maintain sterility. Distribute instruments to clinical areas, track inventory shortages, and perform preventive maintenance on sterilization equipment. Adhere to OSHA and CDC standards while collaborating with nursing staff and volunteers to ensure instrument readiness.
Required Qualifications
- CRCST or CSPDT certification required (or willingness to obtain within an agreed timeframe)
- Working knowledge of infection control principles, sterilization methods, and manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs)
- Comfort operating autoclaves and sterile processing equipment
- Basic computer skills for inventory and documentation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work carefully and consistently in a fast-paced environment
- Punctual, dependable, and capable of multitasking
- Must be available for travel between Hackensack and Garfield locations as needed
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience in sterile processing, central supply, or a related clinical support role
