Job Summary
Provide on-site support for the reprocessing of surgical instruments and sets to contracted facilities in compliance with Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, and AORN standards. Manage daily operations of reusable medical supplies, including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes. Report broken instrumentation and equipment while communicating low par levels of SPD consumable supplies. Maintain documentation for sterilization, biological monitoring, and quality assurance records. Work in a fast-paced Healthcare Services environment, potentially requiring various shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills and aptitude
- Active certification in sterile processing/central sterile via CBSPD or IAHCSMM or two years of experience in lieu of certification
- Extensive knowledge of instrumentation
- Ability to act as a resource for staff in both SPD and OR regarding identification and assembly of specialty instruments and trays
- Ability to work daily in a fast-paced Healthcare Services environment
- Ability to perform tasks simultaneously while maintaining quality
- May be required to work various shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime hours
- Flexibility to travel to surrounding clinic locations as needed
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of a Sterile Processing/Surgical Technologist program
- CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification
- A minimum of 3–5 years of sterile processing experience, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center, dermatology, ophthalmology, plastics, ENT, or hospital SPD setting
- Comprehensive knowledge of Instrument Instructions for Use (IFUs) and evidence-based instrument reprocessing practices
- Strong working knowledge of Joint Commission, AAMI, CDC, AORN, and infection prevention standards
- Experience maintaining sterilization documentation, biological monitoring records, maintenance logs, quality assurance records, and regulatory compliance documentation
- Proven ability to educate clinical staff, conduct competency validations, and support regulatory readiness initiatives
