Job Summary

Maintain established inventory levels by checking supplies and equipment, then order supplies for the area. Perform appropriate testing of all sterilizers and keep accurate records while caring for surgical instruments and supplies. Ensure compliance with standard precautions, aseptic technique, and principles of sterilization and instrument handling. Participate in continuing education opportunities and demonstrate effective communication with patients, co-workers, and health team members. Requires current Sterile Processing Certification and Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification. Salary range is $25.00-$33.00 per hour based on skill and experience.

Required Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Instrument technician experience, 2 years or equivalent experience in hospital materials management department
  • Sterile Processing Certification
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
  • Knowledge of standard precautions, aseptic technique and principles of sterilization and instrument handling
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co workers, and other health team members
