Job Summary
Assess, treat, and care for patients with pulmonary disorders. Responsible for the clinical administration of all therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care modalities offered by the department. Operates and sets up devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration, aerosol generators, and disposable respiratory care products; provides emergency care including artificial ventilation and CPR assistance; collects and analyzes arterial blood gases, monitors patient response via vital signs, ABG values, and oxygen saturation; follows physician orders for treatment, evaluates treatment requirements, and communicates changes with the care team. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals to manage the patient’s plan of care. PRN scheduling and responsibilities align with department needs and safety policies.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program
- Experience: One year previous Respiratory Therapy experience preferred
- Licenses/Certificates: Current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Texas Medical Board; Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from NBRC AFTER July 1, 2002; BLS on hire and ACLS within 90 days of employment; PALS and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 90 days if required by department
