Job Summary

Conduct uniform patrol and criminal investigations to maintain public order, respond to emergencies, and enforce laws. Execute traffic stops, secure crime scenes, collect evidence, and obtain search and arrest warrants. Interview witnesses, suspects, and victims while resolving community conflicts and assisting stranded motorists. Transport prisoners, provide courtroom security, and testify in court as needed. Manage the evidence/property room, process documentation, and coordinate with external agencies and the District Attorney's Office. Complete required training, maintain assigned vehicle and equipment, and perform K-9, Special Response Team, or animal control duties as assigned. This role requires active Georgia Peace Officers Certification, a valid driver's license, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Minimum starting hourly pay is $28.16, with a competitive benefits package including a generous pension plan and a take-home vehicle.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • 21 years of age or higher preferred
  • U. S. citizen or legal resident
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • No felony convictions, domestic violence violations, aggravated misdemeanor, misdemeanor related to public order or decency, more than two misdemeanors, more than one DUI/DWI, racking or reckless driving within the past five years
  • No dishonorable discharge from the military
  • Having and maintaining good moral character as determined by investigation of the criminal history of the candidate to verify that there is no recent pattern of offense that may indicate less than good moral character
  • Possession of Active Georgia Peace Officers Certification and related experience
  • Successfully passing the minimum physical agility requirements upon employment and continually thereafter
  • Possession of a valid State of Georgia driver's license, acceptable driving history, and the ability to drive a vehicle as needed
  • Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia
  • Completion of Governor's Initiative annual training
  • Completion of 100 additional POST training hours annually on a calendar year basis
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions
  • Skill in the interpretation and analysis of data and in the preparation of related reports
  • Skill in oral and written communications
  • Skill in law enforcement principles and practices
  • Skills in civil and criminal investigation principles and practices
  • Skill in departmental and city policies and procedures and federal, state, and local guidelines
  • Skills in city streets and geography
  • Skill in the use of firearms and restraint equipment
  • Skill in operating emergency vehicles and related equipment
  • Ability to use a computer with proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to multi-task multiple projects or issues simultaneously and meet firm deadlines
  • Strong skills to be able to interact professionally and build good working relationships with others
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with others, and adequately and respectfully deal with members of the general public
  • Employee must have the visual ability to observe and detect dangerous obstacles, other vehicles or equipment, and pedestrians
  • The work frequently involves pushing, pulling, manipulating, holding, lifting or carrying loads or objects of more than fifty pounds
  • Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment
  • The work is performed in an indoor controlled environment and also outdoors in all forms of weather that may be very hot, cold, inclement or extreme
  • Frequently works in emergency and high-stress situations
  • Certain medical conditions and medications can disqualify a candidate
