Job Summary
Collect blood specimens, sort and access them into pre-analytic and analytic workflows, and complete computerized tasks for patient registration and test order entry. Perform basic post-analytic duties including distributing reports and storing specimens while documenting work and maintaining a clean, stocked, and safe area. Operate lab equipment and escalate priority work or unusual deviations to ensure privacy and safety in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Interact compassionately with patients of diverse backgrounds while managing fluctuations in volume and unexpected situations. Full-time day or evening shift; pay range $34.55 to $48.36 per hour.
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma: High School or General Education Diploma (GED)
- CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I
- CPT II-Certified Phlebotomy Technician II
- Knowledge and practice of standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to ordering Laboratory testing
- Knowledge and practice of standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to collecting blood specimens
- Knowledge and practice of standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to handling and processing biological specimens routinely submitted to the Laboratory for analysis
- Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks
- Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected timeframes
- Ability to compassionately and effectively interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors
- Ability to appropriately respond to fluctuations in volume
- Ability to appropriately respond to unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or IS failure
- Ability to appropriately respond to shift-to-shift hand-offs
- Ability to appropriately respond to STAT test orders
- Ability to appropriately respond to specimen integrity issues
- Ability to appropriately respond to regular review of pending logs, priority assignments, etc.
- Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence
- Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients
- Solid critical thinking in applying knowledge and decision-making
- Knowledge of and ability to recognize and appropriately escalate complex and unusual deviations, problems, unusual occurrences and unexpected outcomes
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative setting where the communication of current, factual, and relevant work information is required
