Job Summary
Collect blood specimens, receive, sort, and access them for laboratory testing, then assign specimens to appropriate pre-analytic and analytic workflows. Complete computerized tasks for patient registration, test order entry, and post-analytic report distribution while maintaining a clean, stocked, and safe work area. Operate basic pre-analytic lab equipment and escalate priority work or unusual deviations as needed. Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations to ensure patient privacy and safety while interacting compassionately with diverse patients. Perform quality-related documentation and monitor pending work logs to manage fluctuations in volume and unexpected situations.
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma: High School or General Education Diploma (GED)
- CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I
- CPT II-Certified Phlebotomy Technician II
- Knowledge and practice of standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to ordering Laboratory testing
- Knowledge and practice of standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to collecting blood specimens
- Ability to compassionately and effectively interact with patients
- Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks
- Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected timeframes
- Ability to appropriately respond to fluctuations in volume
- Ability to appropriately respond to unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or IS failure
- Ability to appropriately respond to shift-to-shift hand-offs
- Ability to appropriately respond to STAT test orders
- Ability to appropriately respond to specimen integrity issues
- Ability to appropriately respond to regular review of pending logs, priority assignments, etc.
- Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence
- Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients
- Solid critical thinking in applying knowledge and decision-making
- Knowledge of and ability to recognize and appropriately escalate complex and unusual deviations, problems, unusual occurrences and unexpected outcomes
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative setting where the communication of current, factual, and relevant work information is required
- Must be available for Day/Evening Schedule
- Must work Part Time Shift Hours
- Must work 4 Days of the Week
- Must work Monday - Friday
- Weekend Requirements: As Needed
