Job Summary
Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by greeting shoppers, answering phones, and handling inquiries that do not require pharmacist expertise. Assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing prescription medications, including accepting new orders, calling doctors for refills, gathering patient information, affixing labels, and submitting insurance claims. Manage pharmacy operations by stocking supplies, filing dispensed prescriptions, performing cash transactions, and troubleshooting third-party billing. Maintain strict adherence to safety guidelines, including handling hazardous drugs per USP 800 standards and ensuring HIPAA confidentiality. Report medication errors and maintain cleanliness of the dispensing area.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed, through a national certification program, as a pharmacy technician
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to physically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
- Vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), and field of vision
- Ability to do logical or scientific thinking to solve problems
- Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving arithmetic, algebraic and geometric calculations
- Must be able to compose original correspondence; follow technical manuals; have increased contact with people; interview counsel or advise people; evaluate technical data
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks (filling scripts, answering telephone, waiting on customers, etc.) every day
- Must be able to handle dangerous chemicals/solvents while compounding products and chemotherapy drugs
- Must maintain the confidentiality of the customer's private medical information according to the HIPPA act
- Daily contact with customers, general public, and suppliers/vendors
- Occasional contact with community or trade/professional organizations and federal/state governmental or regulatory agencies
- Acknowledgement that exposure to hazardous drugs may cause acute and chronic effects
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre employment drug screen
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk
