Job Summary
Certified Peer Specialist provides 1:1 peer support to individuals in Racine and Kenosha communities, leveraging lived experience to support recovery. Responsibilities include linking individuals to self-determined supports (mental health services, case management, psychiatry, therapy, mutual aid, and community resources), conducting a minimum of four contacts per month (two in person), documenting progress with Needs Assessments and progress notes, and coordinating with Probation Agents to support recovery goals. The role requires engaging participants to develop voice and choice in their care, navigating systems of care, and delivering educational discussions. Work involves community-based locations, home visits, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team; 40 hours per week with possible evenings/weekends, and requires strong written/verbal communication and knowledge of substance use and mental health. The program emphasizes empowerment, continuity of care, and adherence to agency policies and funding requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High school or GED/HSED required
- Graduate of state Certified Peer Specialist training
- Possess current Certified Peer Specialist certification
- Criminal and caregiver background checks as required
- Valid driver’s license, automobile, and sufficient insurance preferred
