Job Summary
Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) needed at Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, CA. Direct O&M instruction to clients (foundational O&M skills, long cane assessments, functional low vision and hearing evaluations, assistive technology training for independent travel) and advanced training for complex intersections and travel environments. Assist with data collection and outcome measurements for the OMI Program, participate on the review committee, help plan and deliver O&M seminars, support education and training for O&M specialists, participate in Guide Dog Experience days and outreach events, and give professional presentations about O&M and guide dog mobility at conferences. Opportunities to travel up to 30% and bring your dog to work. Required Qualifications
- Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) required
- Experience working with a broad range of clients preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently, multi-task, and follow through and complete projects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a diverse constituency where sensitivity and confidentiality are critical
- Spanish bilingual, and/or bicultural expertise highly desirable
- Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
