Job Summary
Obtain patient medical history, conduct diagnostic tests including visual acuity, tonometry, OCT, and fundus photography, and prepare patients for eye exams and surgical procedures. Assist ophthalmologists during examinations, administer eye drops and medications per RCW 18.360.050(i), maintain equipment and supplies, and document patient records while communicating findings. Educate patients on post-care instructions and follow-up appointments. Maintain BLS and RQI standards, attend all clinical staff meetings, and complete mandatory in-service education. Demonstrate competency in medical tasks listed on the current Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) by JCAHPO at hire
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) by JCAHPO within one (1) year from hire date
- WA State Medical Assistant Certification
- American Heart Association BLS HCP
- Submission of the Medical Assistant – Registered Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement with the Washington Department of Health within 7 days of the start date
- Copy of Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement to Human Resources
- Active Washington Medical Assistant Registration within 60 days of hire
- Copy of written verification the endorsement is accepted and active with the Washington State Department of Health to Human Resources
- Completion of all assigned unit/department specific checklists, including applicable CLIA competencies, supervised by a Healthcare Practitioner within 60 days of hire
- Copy of all checklists and competencies to Human Resources
- A minimum of one (1) year experience as a medical assistant in a clinic setting
- Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program
- Graduate of accredited school for medical assistants, or an equivalent combination of coursework, experience/training
- Demonstrate competency and perform only the medical tasks listed on the current Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner as defined in RCW 18.360.010
