Job Summary

Monitor patient arrivals and assist with navigation through the eye clinic while performing all clinical duties required of a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant. Conduct comprehensive intake examinations by collecting and documenting patient health and eye history, testing visual acuity, visual fields, pupils, and intraocular pressure, and administering pharmacologic agents. Prepare patients, rooms, supplies, and equipment for exams and procedures, while managing inventory, cleaning, and maintenance of ophthalmic supplies and exam rooms. Recognize and comply with all national, local, and institutional regulations regarding patient privacy and safety. Assist fellow staff and physicians with daily tasks and contribute to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for technical and clinical activities.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current International Joint Commission of Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (iJCAHPO) certification as Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
  • BLS within 30 days of hire
