Job Summary
Assist residents with treatments, modalities, and psychosocial care while safeguarding their property, privacy, and dignity. Monitor and document observations, communicate status to the interdisciplinary team, and maintain safe work practices and infection control procedures. Keep living areas orderly, support resident independence and choice, and foster socialization through interaction with staff and families. Adhere to facility standards, attend in-service training, and demonstrate patience and emotional stability when working with the elderly.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must be able to read, write, and follow instructions
- Must demonstrate manual dexterity to operate equipment used (such as a Hoyer lift, electronic scale, etc.)
- Completion of the 76 hour Nursing Assistant course
- Must take a written test and obtain a score of 80% or better
- Must have a genuine interest in geriatric nursing
- Must have a compassion for the aging
- Must have a sincere desire to work with the elderly
- Must have a willingness to work with the realization that errors may have serious consequences for the residents
- Must demonstrate self-control and emotional stability in a variety of demanding situations
- Must be interested in helping people
- Must have a sincere desire to constantly improve nursing knowledge and skills
- Must be able to meet the physical and mental abilities of the job
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Prior work in a geriatric setting preferred
