Job Summary

Provide personal care including grooming, bathing, dressing, and oral care for residents daily. Change bed linens, ambulate and transfer residents using proper body mechanics, and record vital signs, weights, and intake/output. Turn and position residents as needed, observe for condition changes, and report findings to the Charge Nurse. Prepare residents for meals, transport them to dining rooms, and maintain accurate food records. Assist with aseptic techniques, ensure proper ventilation, and promptly answer call lights. Collect data for MDS completion, support resident choices, and maintain confidentiality while adhering to facility policies and attendance standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Nursing Assistant Certification from state
  • Maintain CPR Certification
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Currently attending a CNA class working toward certification
  • Organized and detailed in work performance
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent self-discipline
  • Patience
  • Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility
  • Comply with the Resident's Rights and Facility Policies and Procedures
  • Must adhere to attendance standards per Attendance Policy

  • Meet general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which may include a medical and physical examination

  • Must be able to routinely turn and position residents
  • Must be able to observe residents carefully and report changes in condition
  • Must be able to recognize a resident's ability to make choices and support these
  • Must be able to participate in collecting data needed for the accurate completion of the MDS and the plan of care
  • Must be able to provide input to the nurses for development of the plan of care
  • Must be able to provide adequate hydration to residents at regular intervals each day
  • Must be able to prepare residents for each meal and transport to dining room
  • Must be able to keep an accurate record of food intake and output
  • Must be able to assist nursing staff with the basics of aseptic and sterile techniques
  • Must be able to be alert for proper ventilation, temperature, light and noise control
  • Must be able to take TPR, blood pressure, weighing of residents, etc. as directed
  • Must be able to promptly answer call lights and other resident needs
  • Must be able to utilize proper body mechanics when lifting or transporting residents
  • Must be able to assist in the orientation and training of other staff
  • Must be able to attend in-service education programs in order to meet facility educational requirements
  • Must be familiar with Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Fire Drill and Evacuation Procedures
  • Must be able to know how to use the information from Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Fire Drill and Evacuation Procedures
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of resident and facility records/information
  • Must be able to protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse
  • Must be able to protect the personal property of the residents of the facility
  • Must be able to perform work tasks within the physical demand requirements as outlined
  • Must be able to perform Essential Duties as outlined above
  • Must be able to answer questions regarding job description and its requirements
  • Must be able to complete all duties as assigned
  • Must be able to understand that job functions may be altered from time to time
