Job Summary

Provide direct care to residents to improve or maintain their abilities according to the resident's plan of care, including assisting with bathing, grooming, oral care, dressing, mobility, transferring, and feeding. Perform restorative care through ambulation and range-of-motion exercises, manage elimination and toileting needs, and ensure proper body alignment to prevent contractures. Monitor resident conditions, report changes in behavior or status to the Charge Nurse, and assist with planning and evaluation of care plans. Maintain a homelike environment while protecting resident rights, dignity, and self-determination. This role requires adherence to facility policies, infection control procedures, and state survey preparation. Candidates must possess current CNA certification, demonstrate competence in lifting residents up to 300 pounds, and handle the mental and emotional stress of a 24-hour skilled care environment serving disabled and cognitively impaired individuals.

Required Qualifications

  • Current CNA certification issued by the local Department of Health Services
  • Proof of successful completion of an approved OBRA certification program from another state
  • No findings in the State Nurse Aide Registry concerning physical, mental and/or verbal abuse, neglect, mistreatment of residents or misappropriation of resident's property
  • Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information
  • Must be able to be easily understood through verbal communication in the English language
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Must be able to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, and volume
  • Must have exceptional communication and customer service skills
  • Must be empathetic
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which includes an annual TB screening and physical examination
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Must be able to lift up and over 100 pounds with assistance according to resident's abilities
  • Must be able to move intermittently during working hours
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to bend, squat, push, stoop and pull as needed
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
  • Must be able to arrive and to begin work on time
  • Must be able to comply with facility policies on attendance and punctuality
  • Must be able to comply with facility policies and procedures for workplace safety including infection control procedures
  • Must be able to apply standard precautions for blood borne pathogens
  • Must be able to use personal protective equipment
  • Must be able to handle hazardous materials
  • Must be able to demonstrate competence in performing all services required of a nursing assistant including providing nursing and nursing-related services to individuals with cognitive impairments
  • Must be able to recognize changes in resident's conditions as evidenced by physical symptoms, verbal expression or observation of change in mental or psychosocial status
  • Must be able to carry out the essential functions of this job (with or without reasonable accommodation) without posing specific, current risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self and others

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience giving personal care to impaired individuals in a health care setting
