Job Summary
Provide direct personal care including bathing, toileting, grooming, feeding, positioning, and mobility assistance. Measure, observe, and document vital signs, intake and output, and changes in patient condition. Assist with patient transfers, transport, and range-of-motion activities using proper body mechanics. Support meals and nutrition by preparing patients for meals and assisting with feeding as needed. Maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked patient care environment while following infection control and safety policies. Communicate respectfully and compassionately with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Entry Level requires a State of Hawaiʻi Nurse Aide Certificate and BLS/Heartsaver certification within six months; Full Performance requires one year of direct patient care experience and ability to recognize abnormal signs. Work rotating shifts in the Extended Care department supporting comfort, dignity, and safety for residents across East Hawaiʻi.
Required Qualifications
- Current State of Hawaiʻi Nurse Aide Certificate
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand simple English instructions
- Willingness to work rotating shifts and in various care settings or units
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Heartsaver certification
- Demonstrated patience, respect for patient rights, emotional stability, and teamwork skills
- One (1) year of experience providing direct patient care in a hospital, long-term care, or similar healthcare setting or completion of a practical or professional nursing program
- Ability to independently provide age-specific care, recognize abnormal signs and symptoms, and report findings appropriately
- Working knowledge of infection control, patient safety, restorative care, and basic medical terminology
- Strong observation, documentation, and communication skills with the ability to work independently under general supervision
