Job Summary
Certified Medication Aide (CMA) provides safe, accurate medication administration and compassionate daily care to residents in an assisted living/memory care community. Under supervision of licensed nursing staff, administer prescribed medications, verify resident identity, monitor responses, document dosage and observations, assist with activities of daily living, report changes to charge staff, maintain accurate documentation, and support admissions/discharges. Roles may be known as CMA, Medication Technician (CMT), Med Aide (L1MA), or Medication Assistant. Requires high school diploma or equivalent, completion of CMA program, active CMA certification, and ability to perform physical tasks (lifting/moving residents) while maintaining resident safety. Strong teamwork, communication, and adherence to state regulations and facility policies are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) program that meets state requirements
- Active CMA certification in good standing
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and assist with resident transfers as needed
- Push, pull, and maneuver up to 100 lbs., including resident mobility assistance
- Maneuver resident wheelchairs weighing up to 350 lbs.
- Clear communication skills and professionalism
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary care team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to medication safety
- Follow proper resident care procedures including two-person lifts when required
