Job Summary
Administer oral and topical medications to patients/residents as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, adhering to state, federal, and facility policies. Demonstrate knowledge of the five rights of medication administration, take and record vital signs, and document all treatments and responses to PRN medications. Observe for and report adverse reactions, dispense narcotics with proper accountability, and secure medication carts and refrigerators. Perform observation rounds, supervise nursing assistants and orderlies as assigned, maintain organized medication storage, remove expired drugs for destruction, and attend quality assurance meetings. Ensure patient safety and enforce abuse prevention policies while functioning as a team leader.
Required Qualifications
- State certification as a Nursing Assistant
- State approved medication administration certification (where required)
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language
- Ability to function as a Team Leader/Role Model
- Has reviewed Cantex Continuing Care Networks Clinical Policies and Procedures for Abuse Prevention and knows the employee's responsibility to enforce it
- Responsible for assuring patient/resident safety
