Job Summary
Take patient histories and vital signs, prepare patients for examinations, and assist physicians during exams and procedures. Collect and process laboratory specimens, administer medications as directed, and perform basic laboratory tests. Instruct patients on medication and special diets, remove sutures, and change dressings. Greet arriving patients, schedule appointments, manage calendars, maintain records, and coordinate referrals. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations while facilitating patient education. This role supports medical professionals in Neurosurgery and Orthopedics at Northeast Georgia Health System, which serves over 1 million people across five hospitals and outpatient locations.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registry or Certification as a Medical Assistant through a recognized certification body
- Current BLS certification
- High School Diploma or GED
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in medical terminology and procedures
- Ability to multitask and prioritize various responsibilities
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Competency in using medical software and electronic health records
- Problem-solving skills and critical thinking
