Job Summary
Deliver individualized medical care to patients in person, electronically, and via telephone under provider supervision. Support the patient and provider throughout the visit, ensure preparation, answer questions, and prepare rooms for subsequent appointments. Communicate effectively over the phone and in person to meet patient needs timely and accurately. Access data systems to document pertinent medical information and complete appropriate registration. Adapt communication styles and explanations to diverse patient populations while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Maintain clinical knowledge and credentials through professional development.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Experience working with and maintaining confidential information
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
- Medical Assistant Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- Clinical knowledge
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to lift 20 to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to lift 10 to 25 pounds frequently
- Ability to lift greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly
- Ability to work in an area where patients enter
- Ability to work directly with patients
- Ability to work with specimens that could contain communicable diseases
- Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility
- Ability to ensure compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards
- Ability to report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct
- Ability to ensure patient/employee safety
- Ability to ensure patient privacy
- Ability to work in a patient care area
- Ability to work in a healthcare setting
- Ability to handle occupational risk for exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
- Ability to handle occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of a formal medical assistant training program
