Job Summary
Perform assigned patient care and administrative duties under direct supervision of a physician, APRN, or PA. Obtain and record patient vital signs, chief complaints, medications, and allergies while preparing patients for examination and treatment. Administer medications and immunizations as ordered, apply splints and casts, and assist with procedures and office-based surgery. Document clinical data in medical records, report critical lab values, and complete insurance forms and billing tasks. Schedule tests and treatments, manage pre-authorizations, and conduct patient education on diagnosis and self-care. Handle clinically related telephone calls and maintain exam room supplies and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a medical assisting education program accredited by the CAAHEP, ABHES, or any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education
- Completion of a Career and Technical Education Health Sciences Program approved by the South Carolina Department of Education
- Completion of a medical assisting program provided by a branch of the United States Military
- Completion of a medical assisting United States Department of Labor-approved Registered Apprenticeship program
- Completion of a training program delivered by a health care employer that aligns with a nationally accredited certification exam
- Completion of the Prisma Health Certification Institute (PHCI) Fast Track Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) program
- Job Related Certification from one of the following: CMA (AAMA); RMA (AMT); CCMA(NHA); NCMA (NCCT); RMA (ARMA); NRCMA (NAHP); or RMA (AAMP)
