Job Summary

Welcome and provide information to patients, visitors, and tribal members in person or by phone. Room patients per clinic guidelines while completing vital signs, height, weight, and eye exams as needed. Prepare and gather information for patient visits, then assist providers during exams and procedures while observing sterile technique. Administer approved injections, vaccines, and medications under nurse oversight; collect lab specimens and perform minor wound care or suture removal after provider assessment. Transport patients, clean exam rooms and equipment, maintain medical supply inventory, and report unsafe conditions to supervisors.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of medical assistant or similar experience
  • Current National certification as a medical assistant (AAMA, NCMA or CCMA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or capable of obtaining one
  • Be insurable by KIC's company insurance
  • Adhere to KIC drug and alcohol policies and procedures
  • Pass a pre-employment and subsequent random and/or for cause drug and alcohol screening
  • Possess and maintain a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in covered programs
  • Knowledge of universal precautions and safety measures in providing patient care
  • Knowledge and skill in gathering, reporting, and recording patient information
  • Knowledge of EMR and all associated care programs
  • Knowledge and ability to carry out rules of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Ability to manage simultaneously multiple tasks, including phone calls, computer operations, and in-person visitors
  • Skilled in customer service and communication to ensure patients feel comfortable before, during, and after appointment(s)
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate professionally
  • Ability to recognize, identify, and resolve problems and issues without direct supervision
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to assist medical providers during procedures, ensuring an efficient and smooth workflow
  • Ability to take detailed and accurate patient histories
  • Ability to organize and manage patient records and appointment scheduling to optimize and support clinic operations
  • Ability to manage medical referrals and communicate updates effectively with the medical and nursing team when appropriate
  • Ability to take directions from supervisor and/or designee
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all KIC operations and staff
  • Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • Frequently required to stand and/or sit
  • Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, or balance
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 40
  • Close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
  • Must participate in an annual outreach activity
  • Must complete training as a preceptor within 1 year
  • 3 years of Certified Medical Assistant experience
  • Must remain current on training as a preceptor
  • 5 years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
