Job Summary
Manage check-in, rooming, and check-out processes while obtaining and documenting patient history, allergies, medications, and demographics. Enter provider orders for medications, labs, and imaging into the computerized provider order entry system. Educate patients on care plans, prescribed medications, and specimen collection preparation. Prepare patient charts by reviewing pertinent information and working with the HIM department. Accurately record all care, observations, and treatment responses in the electronic medical record. Assist with in-office procedures including anoscopy and injections, and maintain exam room inventory and cleanliness. Perform clerical duties such as photocopying, faxing, and scheduling follow-up appointments.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- BLS Certification
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of health information
- Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and cope with rapidly changing patient care needs
- Ability to prepare, gather and document completely, efficiently and accurately in an electronic medical record
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Basic understanding of pharmacology
- Proficient computer skills working in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Practice Management software
- Possesses interpersonal, communication, and listening skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with patients, physicians, and all staff members
- Demonstrates professionalism and respect in all forms of communication and correspondence
- One year of experience working as an MA or in a similar role (i.e., CNA, Health Unit Coordinator)
Desired Qualifications
- Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Current certification through an approved Medical Assistant credentialing organization or Assessment Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) through AAMA
- Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (ARMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA), or other comparable Medical Assistant certification
