Job Summary
Medical Assistant – Float at Northwestern Medicine supports physicians and nurses across multiple NM sites, facilitating patient flow, rooming, vitals, and basic clinical procedures. The role requires travel among Lake Forest, Grayslake, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Glenview, Gurnee, Vernon Hills, Highland Park, and Deerfield locations, with flexible scheduling and 40 hours/week. Responsibilities include patient preparation, obtaining vital signs, assisting with ECGs, venipuncture, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen collection, and CLIA-waived testing as directed, maintaining clean exam rooms, shielding patient confidentiality, and supporting providers and the care team. Travel expectations, lab and administrative duties, and adherence to organizational policies are included, along with the expectation to obtain required MA certifications within six months of employment and to maintain BLS/CPR certification.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Current certification in CMA/ RMA/ NCMA/ CCMA/ NRCMA (or eligibility to write one of the five eligible exams)
- American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification
- Zero to two years of experience in a relevant role
- Strong computer skills
- Completion of accredited Medical Assistant training program (preferred)
- Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) (preferred)
