Job Summary
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) TCP Fulshear position in Katy/Fulshear, TX, seeking a CMA to gather patient data, assess and provide direct care, and collaborate with the healthcare team to render age-appropriate care. Responsibilities include collecting patient/family data, vital signs, documenting in the electronic health record, preparing patients for examinations, assisting providers during treatments, coordinating care (lab results, referrals, vaccine eligibility), and maintaining supplies. Bilingual preferred. The role requires adherence to SMILES and AIDET philosophies and includes respiratory fit testing as part of safety compliance.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Graduation from a medical assistant or emergency medical technician program OR Documentation from the licensing authority confirming that medical assistant/emergency medical technician education is not a requirement for certification
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical assistant/outpatient care tasks, and customer service concepts
- Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills, and operate basic medical equipment
- BLS - American Heart Association
- One of the following licenses and certifications: CCMA, CMA-AAM, CMA-C, EMT, EMT-A, EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-P, LIC PAR, NCMA, NRCMA, RMA
- Demonstrates SMILES and AIDET philosophies to patients, families and coworkers
- Adheres to Standards of Behavior
- Tasks are measured by observation of evaluator
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English)
- Assist in the collection of patient/family data including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per practice protocol
- Collect and document vital signs, BMI, height/weight, and reason for visit with complete accuracy
- Document current medications, allergies, and other information in the EHR
- Prepare patients for examination and assist provider during treatments, examinations, and testing as directed by the provider
- Document all interventions per practice protocol
- Call in and/or send electronic prescription refills as directed
- Assist provider during office emergency patient care
- Keep rooms stocked with supplies and notify managers when supplies are low
- Participate as a member of the care team and participate in daily huddles and monthly staff meetings
- Coordinate patient care by following up on lab results, ER visits, etc.
- Identify patients eligible for Vaccines for Children program and follow procedures for accurate documentation and management
- Assess patient’s eligibility for referral by verifying coverage with payer prior to initiating referral
- Manage the outstanding orders report and lab error work queue to assure results are received
- Provide superb customer service
- Respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards
