Job Summary
Certified Medical Assistant in a surgical oncology setting performing clinical, technical, administrative and clerical duties under physician/APRN/PA supervision. Responsibilities include preparing exam/treatment rooms, obtaining vital signs, managing immunizations and medications administration, assisting with examinations, tests and office-based procedures, applying splints/casts and removing sutures, handling lab value reporting, documenting in medical records, preparing and processing insurance and pre-authorization forms, scheduling tests, and providing patient education and printed self-care information. Includes maintaining supplies/equipment, cleaning/sterilizing instruments, and communicating with patients, referral sources, and payors.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a medical assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES or equivalent
- State-approved medical assisting education program (South Carolina or equivalent)
- Certification: CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), CCMA (NHA), NCMA (NCCT), NRCMA (NAHP) or RMA (ARMA) or RMA (AAMP)
- Ability to perform clinical procedures including IM and intradermal injections, immunizations, splinting/dressing, sutures removal, and point-of-care testing
- Experience in handling medical records, insurance forms, pre-authorizations, scheduling and billing tasks
- Strong communication skills and patient education capabilities
- Ability to work under supervision in a surgical oncology setting
