Job Summary
Greet patients and the community respectfully while reviewing and updating health records, verifying diagnostic test results, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations. Measure vital signs including pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height. Perform clerical duties such as checking inventory, tracking referrals, and answering phones. Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly as assigned. Requires active Medical Assisting certification and one year of medical assistant experience. Located at St. Francis Primary Care Downtown with 40 scheduled weekly hours.
Required Qualifications
- Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- High School Degree or GED
- BLS Basic Life Support
- One year of medical assistant healthcare experience
- Two years of clerical experience in a physician's office
- Problem-solving skills
- Basic computer skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desired Qualifications
- If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina)
- BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
- Experience in a medical assistant healthcare role (preferred, not required)
- Clerical experience in a physician's office (preferred, not required)
