Job Summary

Greet patients and the community respectfully while reviewing and updating health records to ensure diagnostic test results and medical reports are accurate. Measure vital signs including pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height, then prepare treatment rooms for upcoming examinations. Perform clerical duties such as checking inventory, tracking referrals, and answering phones, while troubleshooting and resolving problems promptly. Requires active Medical Assisting certification, one year of healthcare experience, and basic computer skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • High School Degree or GED
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
  • One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required)
  • Two years of clerical experience in a physician's office (preferred, not required)
  • Possesses problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to greet patients and the community in a respectful manner
  • Ability to verify that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
  • Ability to measure vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
  • Ability to check inventory, stock supplies, track referrals, and answer phones as needed
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly

Desired Qualifications

  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
  • One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required)
  • Two years of clerical experience in a physician's office (preferred, not required)
