Job Summary

Coordinate clinical and non-clinical services under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Provider, including receiving referrals, verifying patient coverage, and obtaining insurance authorization. Perform patient intake and discharge duties by collecting vitals, blood sugar readings, wound measurements, and photography, while documenting observed responses to treatment and reporting unusual changes in condition. Assist with specimen collection, basic laboratory tests, dressing changes, and Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy tasks after required training. Manage clerical responsibilities such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, coding, insurance processing, and entering data into proprietary and hospital database systems. Maintain unit cleanliness, process sterile instruments, and coordinate ancillary testing with other hospital departments.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
  • Graduate from a Medical Assistant program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Program (CAAHEP) or by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification
  • Six (6) or more months of related experience in an acute hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or skilled nursing unit
  • Demonstrated competency in BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Demonstrated organization, prioritization and time-management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, as well as oral communication skills
  • Customer service skills and follow-up skills
  • Ability to multi-task and to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with others and in a team environment
  • Problem solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Being in a stationary position for extended periods of time (4 hours or more)
  • Viewing computer screen for extended periods of time (4 hours or more)
  • Keying frequently on a computer for 4 hours or more
  • Reading
  • Lifting/moving items up to 75 pounds with equipment assistance
  • Pushing/pulling
  • Bending/stooping
  • Communicating
  • Close, distance and peripheral vision
  • Reaching/grasping/touching with hands
  • Writing
