Job Summary
Assess and document physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients while administering medications, performing procedures like injections and phlebotomy, and reporting adverse effects. Establish treatment priorities based on medical and nursing diagnoses, document nursing interventions, and provide patient education at their level of understanding. Prepare for office procedures, manage the medication closet, maintain exam rooms, and use the Electronic Medical Record system according to established guidelines. Prioritize workload effectively in a fast-paced environment, handle phone calls, and make referrals as directed by providers. Adhere to HIPAA and Mahaska Health compliance policies while assisting in mentoring new personnel.
Required Qualifications
- A graduate from an accredited medical assistant program
- currently certified as a Medical Assistant in the state of Iowa
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Knowledge of data protection regulations, such as HIPAA
- experience implementing security measures to protect patient data
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and patient privacy
- Ability to prioritize workload effectively
- ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- current in BLS (Basic Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association
- proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course
- ability to perform the essential work functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation

- Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards
- Understand and comply with the requirements of MH's Compliance Program
- Must be able to lift 25–50 lbs as needed

- Must be able to bend, reach, and perform repetitive clinical tasks
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods
- Must be available for extended hours

- Must be able to assist in the mentoring and orientation of new personnel to the unit
- Must be able to provide patient and family education at their level of understanding
- Must be able to adhere to all confidentiality policies, including compliance with HIPAA and Mahaska Health training requirements
- Must be able to effectively diagnose and resolve issues
- Must be able to quickly diagnose and resolve issues
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, English major preferred
