Job Summary

Conduct patient assessments, interview individuals about health problems and medication history, and document vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, weight, PPDs, EKGs, and basic laboratory tests. Administer medication under physician direction, perform wound care, draw blood, and assist with hygiene, ambulation, and dressing changes. Provide basic patient education, assist providers during examinations, and maintain inventory of medical supplies while answering communications. Perform staggered intermittent safety checks and coordinate patient appointments. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to correctional healthcare policies and legal requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • CMA Certification - Completion of an accredited medical assisting program
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • BLS CPR certification
  • Office Lab Assistant License (for Nevada only)
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
  • Must have the ability to stand for long periods
  • Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
  • Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
  • Must be able to obtain BLS CPR certification, if required (AHA required)
