Job Summary
Greet patients and perform check-in/check-out procedures, collecting copays and verifying insurance benefits. Answer phone calls to schedule appointments and manage clinical inboxes in athenaClinicals. Room patients, obtain vitals, and record symptoms while assisting providers with exams and diagnostic testing. Collect specimens following CLIA regulations and coordinate referrals for imaging or laboratory studies. Call patients with test results and make reminder calls for lab work two weeks prior to appointments. Process medication authorizations, maintain accurate cash transactions, and scan administrative documents. Exercise sound judgment in challenging situations and occasionally train other medical support staff or students.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Current Medical Assistant Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified or other equivalent certification organization
- At least 1-year of relevant medical assistant experience in a physician office
- Broad understanding of clinical operations and physician office practice
- athenaClinicals electronic health record experience
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and other patient privacy laws
- Ability to perform basic patient data entry into athenaClinicals electronic health record and use Microsoft Office suite
- Basic knowledge of medical examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Comply with all HIPAA, OSHA, Compliance, and IT standards and policies
Desired Qualifications
- Current CPR certification preferred
- Nephrology medical office or dialysis experience highly preferred
- Experience with other secure clinical communication and billing applications such as PMD soft
