Job Summary
To perform routine administrative and clinical duties to ensure orderly, efficient office operations and to assist staff with the examination and treatment of patients within university physicians. Responsibilities include assisting with direct patient care procedures (checking in patients, obtaining medical histories, taking vital signs, preparing charts, assisting with examinations), performing routine specialized procedures (venipuncture, catheterization, sterile dressing changes; collecting and preparing laboratory specimens), preparing examination rooms, sterilizing instruments, disposing of contaminated supplies, stocking medications and supplies, educating patients on medical issues, and performing administrative duties (answering telephones, greeting patients, updating/filing medical records, verifying demographics and insurance information, scheduling appointments, billing and bookkeeping). Also includes adherence to safety, infection control, and environment standards with flexible hours and the possibility of variable workload.
Required Qualifications
- One of the following nationally recognized Medical Assistant credentials: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by AAMA
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by NHA
- CMA by NCCT
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by AMT
- RMA by AAMP
- RMA by ARMA
- NRCMA by NAHP
- RMA by AAH
