Job Summary
Conduct play-based, experiential lessons using the Tools of the Mind Curriculum to guide preschoolers ages 2, 3, or 4 through intentional inquiry and social-emotional development. Maintain a safe-to-fail environment while supporting the whole child's physical, cognitive, and emotional milestones. Build trust with parents through daily updates and bridge home and school experiences. Work in an inclusive classroom with a Head of School and other instructors, ensuring all students hit key developmental milestones. Requires NYS Early Childhood certification, a Bachelor's or Master's degree, and 2+ years of lead teaching experience. The role includes a 10-month school year with summers off, offering tuition reimbursement and comprehensive health benefits.
Required Qualifications
- NYS Early Childhood Initial or Permanent Certification (B-2 or 1-6)
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in ECE or a related field
- 2+ years of lead teaching experience in Pre-K (2-4 year olds) or Kindergarten
- Physical ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjustment of focus
- Passion for teaching
- Commitment to being a lifelong learner
- Ability to maintain a safe-to-fail environment where children feel secure enough to take risks and explore their world
- Ability to support the whole child physically, cognitively, and emotionally while helping them navigate big feelings and big milestones
- Ability to build trust with parents and caregivers through daily updates, sharing the successes and challenges of their child's day, and building a bridge between school and home
- Ability to translate the Creative Curriculum or Tools of the Mind Curriculum into vibrant, daily experiences that spark genuine curiosity and lightbulb moments
- Ability to work seamlessly with the Head of School and other instructors to maintain the highest standards of safety and collaboration
- Passion for giving New York City's youngest learners a joyful, solid foundation for lifelong learning
- Ability to be the leader of an inclusive, nurturing 2's, 3's, or 4's classroom
- Ability to utilize Tools of the Mind Curriculum to guide students through a journey of intentional play
- Ability to build engaging, play-based, experiential lessons that spark curiosity in preschoolers ages 2, 3, or 4
- Ability to foster inquiry, independence, and social-emotional intelligence
- Ability to inspire children to become lifelong learners
- Ability to be a steady, inspiring presence within the NYPKC community
- Ability to work during the school year (8:00 am - 4:00 pm)
- Ability to work during summer breaks
- Ability to pass a physical exam
- Ability to pass background checks
