Job Summary
Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, transmissions, drivetrains, suspension, and HVAC systems on excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, and dump trucks. Perform preventive maintenance, routine inspections, and road tests while completing repairs in the shop and on active job sites. Troubleshoot equipment using diagnostic software, service manuals, and schematics, then maintain accurate records and communicate repair needs to management. Adhere to OSHA safety requirements and keep work areas clean and organized.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of experience repairing heavy trucks or construction equipment
- Current diesel or heavy-equipment mechanic certification
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, brakes, and diagnostic equipment
- Ability to diagnose and complete repairs independently
- Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Must provide basic hand tools
- Must pass required background screening and drug testing
Desired Qualifications
- Active ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certifications (T1–T8)
- ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician certification
- Active ASE Construction Equipment certifications (E1–E3)
- ASE Master Construction Equipment Technician certification
- OEM-specific training or certifications for manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Volvo, International, Freightliner, or John Deere
- EPA Section 609 certification for servicing vehicle air-conditioning systems and handling refrigerants
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Welding or fabrication certification
- Diesel Technology degree, diploma, or recognized vocational training
