Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' hand and upper extremity function, then develop and implement personalized treatment plans utilizing therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and modalities. Educate patients and families on injury prevention, home exercise programs, and post-treatment care while collaborating with physicians and surgeons to optimize outcomes. Fabricate and fit custom orthotics and splints to support healing, and monitor patient progress by adjusting treatment plans as necessary. Provide pre-surgical education and postoperative rehabilitation for patients undergoing hand surgery. Maintain certification through continuing education and offer mentorship to other therapists and healthcare students.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) designation
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation
- Proficiency in fabricating custom orthotics and splints
- Strong knowledge of current therapeutic techniques and modalities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
- Membership in professional organizations such as the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT)
- Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
- Current state licensure in Occupational Therapy
- Completion of advanced coursework in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics related to the hand and upper extremity
- Certification or eligibility for certification as a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)
- Proven clinical experience in hand and upper extremity therapy
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
