Job Summary
Certified Family Peer Specialist (CFPS) partners with families of children and youth receiving mental health services to provide encouragement, guidance, and support. drawing from lived experience, CFPS staff help families build on their strengths, navigate challenges, and support their child’s resiliency and recovery. Services are nonclinical and family-centered, focusing on helping caregivers develop skills, knowledge, confidence, and community connections that strengthen the family and support the child or youth’s treatment goals across home, schools, and community settings. Responsibilities include delivering family peer support, advocacy, assisting families in accessing culturally appropriate services, promoting resiliency and self-advocacy, establishing parent support groups, collaborating on integrated treatment plans, maintaining documentation in accordance with requirements, and participating in supervision and team meetings. Requires 18+ with high school diploma or equivalent, experience navigating children's mental health system, successful completion of CFPS training/certification, and Minnesota driver’s license with reliable vehicle and insurance.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have raised or currently be raising a child with a mental illness.
- Must have current or previous experience navigating the children’s mental health system.
- Must successfully complete the Minnesota Department of Human Services-approved Certified Family Peer Specialist training and certification exam.
