Job Summary
Prepare fresh, nutritious meals and snacks for residents and guests while adhering to sanitation, safety, and dietary restriction protocols. Maintain a clean, sanitary kitchen environment and manage inventory, receiving orders, and controlling portion sizes to ensure effective food production. Assist with staff training, supervise meal preparation during manager absences, and handle purchasing and forecasting of bulk foods. Perform daily food temperature checks, complete mandatory training, and comply with infection control, fire prevention, and pest management programs. Communicate effectively with co-workers, residents, and guests to address concerns and maintain service quality.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of grade 12 education
- Minimum 2 years' experience in with large volume food cooking, preparation, and plating techniques
- Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program
- Certified Red Seal certificate
- Valid regional food handler's certificate
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, in the English language
- Familiarity with computerized on-line ordering systems
- Strong knife and preparation skills
- Fundamental baking skills
- Dependable, responsible and an ability to work well with others in a team environment and independently
- Positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
- Capability of working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to recognize health and safety hazards
- Ability to report incidents
- Ability to fulfill responsibilities under the applicable legislation
- Ability to participate in in-services and fire drills
- Ability to participate in the ongoing Fire Prevention program
- Ability to participate in Pest Control programs
- Ability to comply with all corporate policies and procedures
- Ability to complete all required mandatory training/education
