Job Summary
Provide direct patient care during hemodialysis treatments, monitoring vital signs, reporting condition changes, and responding to emergencies under nurse supervision. Prepare and maintain dialysis machines, ensuring sterilization and troubleshooting technical issues. Assist with cannulation, administer medications like heparin, and provide basic care for vascular access sites. Maintain a clean, sanitary environment adhering to infection control protocols while accurately recording patient information and treatment details. Educate patients on dialysis, post-dialysis care, and healthy lifestyle choices. Effectively communicate with patients, healthcare staff, and correctional officers. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality. Requires CCHT certification, BLS CPR, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) or equivalent, or the ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Active BLS CPR Certification
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
