Job Summary

Conduct classroom, hands-on, and behind-the-wheel training for new and existing CDL drivers while mentoring and evaluating their performance against DOT, FMCSA, and company standards. Lead ride-a-longs, road evaluations, and corrective training sessions covering safety policies, Hours of Service compliance, defensive driving, and vehicle inspections. Assist with onboarding, review company expectations, and monitor performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities. Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and compliance documentation while supporting accident investigations and DOT audits. Ensure drivers understand ELD usage, cargo securement, and operational standards. Work Monday through Friday with flexible scheduling, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnight travel as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of commercial driving experience within transportation, freight, or package delivery operations
  • Valid CDL Class A license with acceptable driving record
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical exam
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, and enter/exit commercial vehicles frequently
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to travel locally or regionally for driver training, evaluations, and operational support
  • Ability to work in varying weather and driving conditions
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background check

Desired Qualifications

  • Certified CDL Trainer certification preferred or ability to obtain certification
  • Successfully complete and maintain JJ Keller Driver Trainer certification and all required safety, DOT, and FMCSA compliance training
  • Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and transportation safety regulations
  • Previous experience training, mentoring, or coaching drivers preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ELD systems, and transportation management software preferred
