Job Summary
Collect, inspect, prepare, package, and distribute medical/surgical supplies and equipment while performing decontamination, sterilization, and distribution duties. Disassemble and clean instruments, load washer-disinfectors, and operate sterilizers using prescribed methods and procedures. Direct CSS Aides, manage inventory with first-in-first-out rotation, and restock nursing units and the Operating Room using a par level system. Monitor work progress, handle minor departmental problems, and communicate effectively with other departments to maintain efficiency and safety.
Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate
- One year in Hospital or Surgicenter Central Supply Technician position
- Current certification through the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), or the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) (Formally IAHCSMM)
- Knowledge of aseptic technique
- Knowledge of infection control
- Minimum one year experience in acute care hospital
- Must be able to speak, read and write English
- Good verbal communication skills
- Ability to read, comprehend and execute written and oral instructions
- Ability to verbalize
- Good manual dexterity
- Visual acuity
- Must be able to lift 15 - 35 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach most of the day
- Must be available for weekends as needed
- Hours: 2:00 pm-10:30 pm Monday-Friday
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of specialty instrumentation from OR
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience as a CSS Aide
