Job Summary
Collect, inspect, prepare, package, sterilize, store, and distribute medical/surgical supplies and equipment while assisting in day-to-day CSS department operations. Perform decontamination, instrument disassembly, washer-disinfector loading, and sterilization procedures including biological monitoring and cycle parameter verification. Direct CSS Aides, manage inventory rotation, restock nursing units and operating rooms, and maintain accurate computer records for supply issues. Monitor safety protocols for hazardous substances and infection control, report equipment defects, and handle minor departmental problems independently. Work evenings from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm Monday through Friday with weekends as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate
- One year in Hospital or Surgicenter Central Supply Technician position
- Current certification through the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), or the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) (Formally IAHCSMM)
- Minimum one year experience in acute care hospital
- Must have knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control
- Must be able to speak, read and write English
- Good verbal communication and problem solving skills
- Ability to read, comprehend and execute written and oral instructions
- Must be able to lift 15 - 35 lbs
- Good manual dexterity
- Visual acuity
- Ability to verbalize
- Must be available for weekends as needed
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
