Job Summary
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot combined heat and power, chilled water systems, and connected equipment throughout the NYU portfolio. Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on high-temperature piping, valves, controls, and machinery using hand and power tools. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation faults to identify root causes and recommend repair strategies. Observe, calibrate, and adjust control valves, transmitters, and PLCs to ensure proper operation. Assist in scoping shutdowns, order supplies, and respond to emergencies using available resources. Complete assigned tasks safely with minimal supervision while maintaining housekeeping and labeling standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ten years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of combined heat and power and chilled water systems, equipment and instrumentation and controls proper operating conditions and parameters
- Knowledge of maintenance routines, codes, standards, plant procedures, fire and life safety procedures and codes
- Knowledge of University and department policies, processes, and quality standards
- Soldering, minor welding, wire pulling, brazing, pipe threading and conduit installation skills
- Specific Operation & Maintenance experience with mechanical equipment & systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, instrumentation, filters, lubrication processes, etc...)
- Thorough knowledge of the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment
- Ability to climb ladders up to 24', perform work safely on cherry picker, work in confined spaces or under extreme environmental conditions
- Good written and verbal communications skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge/familiarity with computer applications such as email
- Positive attitude, willingness to collaborate and team with others to accomplish work efficiently and to high quality standards
- Must be able to communicate effectively on e-mail, radio and via phone
